Bristol Rovers have been backed to finish in mid-table next season as they prepare to return to League One. Joey Barton's Gas rank 14th in the early odds published by the bookmakers, with only League Two play-off finalists Port Vale or Mansfield Town to be added.
League One promises to be highly competitive next season with several prestige clubs fighting for success in the third tier. Unprecedented points hauls were required to reach the play-offs in 2021/22 due to the strength of the teams in the top half and with the likes of Derby County and Peterborough United falling into the league that trend could continue.
Big-spending Ipswich Town are the early favourites for the title, with Sheffield Wednesday and Derby also at relatively short prices, but the early odds indicate a wide-open field with several teams in with a shout, should they recruit effectively this summer.
At the other end, Morecambe, Cambridge United and Cheltenham Town did well to avoid relegation in their first season after being promoted, but all three have been tipped to struggle by the oddsmakers. Fleetwood Town, who survived the drop by the skin of their teeth earlier this month, are also predicted to have another tough season.
