League One headlines: Taylor's Bristol Rovers spell praised, Sheffield Wednesday reject £1m bid

The League One landscape remains unpredictable with managerial posts still to be filled and the transfer market starting to hot up.

Some early moves have been made but with many players and coaches still on their holidays, the market will gradually gather pace before the window officially opens in a couple of weeks.

Bristol Rovers are among many clubs playing the waiting game, awaiting clarity on the future of star players like Antony Evans, but there is still plenty going on around the third tier.

Here are the latest League One headlines for May 30...

Stoke delighted by Taylor's Rovers' spell

Rovers would love to have Connor Taylor back at the Mem next season after an outstanding loan spell, but first he will have a chance to Stoke City impress manager Michael O'Neill in pre-season before decisions on his future are made.

In the meantime, Stoke have been left delighted by the centre-back's progress in his season with the Gas, with their loans manager Dave Hibbert saying Taylor is an example of the benefits of temporary moves for young players.

Hibbert told Stoke-on-Trent Live: "You look at the likes of Connor as an example. He played in our under-23s' play-off game last year and on the back of that got a move to Bristol Rovers. He played over 40 games in League Two and won promotion.

"It shows the importance of those kind of games to enhance your reputation and maybe get out on loan somewhere to the league because it's a big step from the 23s to the first team.

"We place a huge importance on it. Not everyone is going to do a Nathan Collins and go straight into the first team. You look at Harry Souttar and Joe Bursik and see the importance of loans in their development.

"We've had a number out this season, probably more than we've ever had, and that's credit to the players and the performances they've put in to attract interest.

"Conversations are going on all the time with managers and I speak to scouts and agents. It's a collective effort from the staff here and elsewhere to make sure these options are available."

Oxford United boss favourite for QPR

After four seasons in charge at the Kassam Stadium, manager Karl Robinson is tipped to take charge at Championship club Queens Park Rangers.

The Hoops are yet to name a successor to Mark Warburton and MK Dons manager Liam Manning and Wycombe Wanderers boss Gareth Ainsworth have both been assessed as options to take charge at Loftus Road.

But Oxford manager Robinson is the new bookmakers' favourite to get the job, priced at 5/4 by SkyBet. Aston Villa assistant manager Michael Beale is second favourite at 7/4, while former Denmark striker Jon Dahl Tomasson is at 5/1.

"It’s always nice that people talk about you," Robinson admitted in conversation with the Oxford Mail. "But I’ve never been motivated by some of the things people think I am.

“I think it’s something you listen to – people will ask questions and speak to me about it consistently.

“That just means you’re doing something right and some people are happy with what you’re doing.”

Owls reject Argentine offer

Argentine club Atlético Talleres have made their desire to sign Sheffield Wednesday star Josh Windass public, but the Owls have turned down a seven-figure bid, according to reports.

The Sheffield Star writes the Primera Division side, managed by Pedro Caixinha, Windass' former boss at Rangers, tabled an offer in the region of £1million, but it was rejected "in strong terms".

Talleres' president Andrés Fassi has spoken publicly in the past week confirming his club's interest in signing Windass, but it appears they will need to up their offer if they are to land the winger.

Stockton in demand

Morecambe are braced for interest in star striker Cole Stockton this summer, with reports linking the 28-year-old with a move north of the border.

According to the Scottish Sun, former Bristol City manager Lee Johnson wants to sign Stockton after taking charge at Scottish Premiership club Hibernian.

Hibs reportedly face competition from National League champions Stockport County, with Dave Challinor's side sure to spend as they return to the EFL for the first time in more than a decade.

Stockton was the Shrimps' star last season, scoring 23 goals to help Derek Adams' side avoid relegation.

Wycombe could lose defender to Championship

Wycombe Wanderers' rebuild after missing out on promotion to the Championship could be dealt a blow with a key part of their defence wanted in the Championship.

That's according to The Sun, which reports Huddersfield Town – fresh off promotion heartbreak of their own – are eyeing a move for centre-half Ryan Tafazolli.

The defender, who hopes to be in Iran's World Cup squad, is reportedly available for a "bargain fee".
