Four weeks from Tuesday Kentucky voters will be making their choices in polling locations all across the Commonwealth. Now is the time to check out logistics as well as weigh candidate positions on issues.
Voting advocates are suggesting Kentuckians confirm who is running in their district in next month's election. Kentucky lawmakers redrew legislative boundaries early in January. And while they were used in the May Primary, for many voters, this will be their first time with new boundaries. Jenn Jackson is chair of voter services with the League of Women Voters of Kentucky.
“So even though your precinct or where you are going to vote will be the same, then who you are voting for may be different,” said Jackson.
In addition to casting votes for many candidates, two constitutional amendments are also on the ballot. One pertains to abortion and the other asks about giving lawmakers the ability to call themselves into session for a certain number of days.
Jenn Jackson said it could be easy to overlook the amendments.
“So, there are a lot of races that are going to be on this ballot. There’s tons of judicial races, council races, all kinds of things that are going to make the ballot very long. So, it’s going to take some, I guess, voter endurance to make it all the way to the bottom,” said Jackson.
The voter registration deadline is Tuesday afternoon, October 11th at 4:00. Jackson noted anyone interested can go to govoteky.com to register. She added it wouldn’t be a bad idea to go to this site to make sure your registration is listed.
