A woman known as the "leader of the pack" has been accused of running a child abuse ring that shared graphic letters inside a NSW prison.
Detectives arrested the 31-year-old at Junee Correctional Centre, a mixed-security prison in the Riverina region, after a four-month investigation into the production and sharing of child abuse material by inmates.
Investigators uncovered a group referring to themselves as "the pack" who allegedly shared letters detailing child sexual abuse and plans to commit crimes against children in the future.
The woman was arrested on Tuesday and charged with eight counts of producing child abuse material, eight counts of disseminating child abuse material and knowingly or recklessly directing a criminal group.
NSW Police allege the woman - who referred to herself as the "leader of the pack" - directed the group from her prison cell, writing letters detailing child abuse before sending them to other inmates.
She appeared in Wagga Wagga Local Court on Tuesday and is due to return to the same court in October.
