Cleveland Browns rookie linebacker Winston Reid was ejected for an illegal hit in the second quarter of the final preseason game against the Seattle Seahawks.
The apparent illegal hit took place on Seattle Seahawks wide receiver Easop Winston during their mid-quarter drive. The undrafted free agent appeared to lead with his shoulder on the attempted tackle and Seattle’s Winston was not injured on the play.
Winston Reid is a rookie undrafted free agent linebacker from Weber State. This is his first attempt at making an NFL roster and has shown potential thus far in camp and the first two preseason games. He will now have to wait and see if the results of his preseason performances were good enough to make the Browns’ 53-man roster.
The reactions on social media were in favor of Winston Reids’ hit not being illegal, but the NFL is everchanging their illegal tackling rules. During a time when undrafted players are faced with their last opportunity to make an NFL roster this season, it is a penalty that hurts to see happen to any player.
