Lawrence Shankland insists he KNEW that Cammy Devlin was going to get Lionel Messi's jersey at the end of his World Cup journey.
The Hearts midfielder plus Kye Rowles and Nathaniel Atkinson will link up with their Gorgie teammates soon after forming part of the Australia squad that reached the World Cup last 16, losing 2-1 to the PSG star's Argentina. Devlin didn't get on the park but he did manage to get a chat with the 35-year-old post-game to obtain his shirt from what was his 1000th game as a professional.
Reflecting on his start to life at Hearts since moving to Edinburgh from Beerschot in the summer transfer window, Shankland insists his prediction over his teammate's big moment turned into reality. He told Hearts TV : "We’re looking forward to getting them back, and they’ll have a natural buzz going for them as well. Cammy will probably have Messi’s top on as well so we can all have a look at that!
“I was talking to Mick when we were watching the game and said: ‘I bet wee Cammy will get Messi’s top, he’ll charge right in there!’
"You only get that opportunity once, and fair play, we all wish we could have had it. The Aussies have been away and obviously done very well at the World Cup. It’s been great for all of us to sit and watch it from afar.”
