Colin Hendry believes Rangers could make an immediate statement by handing Lawrence Shankland the captain's armband upon his arrival.
The Hearts striker is on the verge of a move to Ibrox having hit the net 20 times for the Gorgie outfit this season. He is poised to sign a two-year deal with his new club.
With James Tavernier officially departing Gers at the end of the campaign, it leaves the armband up for grabs and Braveheart reckons the frontman would be an ideal candidate.
Danny Rohl will have a decision to make on the next skipper but, having captained Hearts across the past few seasons, Shankland - Hendry says - is a strong option.
"He's more than equipped to lead and and that would be a statement right away," Hendry told the BBC at the launch of the Refugee World Cup at Hampden.
"I would think there'd be a very high possibility of him becoming the captain. I think if you were to talk about how well he did at Hearts in that role then I think a lot of people would say that he's been successful and able to cope with that and everything that's thrown at you in relation to that position and that situation."
Shankland's move to Glasgow from title-chasing Hearts has rapidly moved along since the end of the season. And Hendry has been left surprised at just how quickly the Light Blues went about their business.
"It would be Danny Rohl's first signing of the summer window and I think it would be great for Rangers. He would be a great asset to Rangers if they get the signature," he added.
"To get him signed prior to going to the World Cup would be good as well because everybody's at ease and then you know it's finished - you know it's all tied up. It's a big, big coup for Rangers. "
