State budget clears first hurdle with Senate vote — but elected school board map hits pause until next year

A day after Gov. J.B. Pritzker and Democratic lawmakers announced a budget agreement, a revised version of the state spending plan moved a bit further along, passing the Illinois Senate late Thursday.

But completion of a final map of the districts for Chicago’s new elected school board will be pushed even further into the future, as both chambers voted to give themselves months more time to draw it up.
