Lauren Cheatle ruled out of WPL 2024 after skin cancer procedure

NEW DELHI: The Women's Premier League (WPL) 2024 will not feature Australia pacer Lauren Cheatle since she had surgery to eradicate skin cancer from her neck.

Cheatle underwent the treatment on Wednesday. She made her Test debut against India in December of last year.

The WPL this year kicks off in Bengaluru on February 23. The Gujarat Giants recruited left-arm quick Cheatle at the December auction.

The 25-year-old, who received a comparable procedure in 2021, will also be sidelined for the remainder of New South Wales' Women's National Cricket League season.

"Cheatle is aiming to return to training with NSW following the players' scheduled off-season break," a Cricket New South Wales statement said.

Cheatle has suffered numerous injuries in the past, including biceps surgery and reconstructions of her left and right shoulders. This is the most recent setback for her.
