Global events can also have an impact in southeastern Kentucky. The Laurel County Sheriff's Office and London Police Department are reacting to the war between Israel and Hamas by stepping up patrols. Deputy Gilbert Acciardo is the public information officer for the Laurel Sheriff's Office.
“We're concentrating on businesses. We have a federal building in London, we're concentrating on that. We're concentrating our patrols along the interstate since we have a major route through Laurel County. I-75.”
Acciardo said they’re also spending more time on the Hal Rogers Parkway – and asking the public to say something if they see something.
“We feel like that being proactive is the route to go on this. Do we expect problems? No. Could there be problems? Yes. I mean, that's the world that we live in.”
Acciardo said he’s not aware of any threats to people or property related to the war in the middle east.
