Laura Woods recalls worst ever interview after Jose Mourinho "looked into my soul"

Laura Woods has opened up on her most harrowing interview experience and harked back to Jose Mourinho's Tottenham Hotspur tenure.

The Sky Sports presenter was tasked with quizzing the legendary Portuguese manager after Harry Kane saw a goal disallowed for Spurs. And Woods was on the receiving end of a startling interview exchange after a decision vexed the former Chelsea and Manchester United boss

Recalling the incident while speaking to Arsenal legend Ian Wright on Wingmen, Woods said: "Harry Kane had just a scored a goal that was ruled out or something like that. Wrighty, he was looking into my soul! He was looking into my soul and he didn't like what he saw. That's how I felt.

Anyway, I started the interview, asking him questions and he immediately flipped it back on me and went, 'Well, what did you think?' And I was like, 'Right, I have to put my big-girl pants on here'.

"And I was like, 'It's not about me, it's about you. No one cares about my opinion'. [Mourinho replied] 'Well I care, what did you think?' And I agreed with him but I just thought I had to hold my own."

Woods suspects Mourinho may have been trying to "test" her mettle during the interview but she insists she is a fan of the Premier League icon and has missed him since he moved back to Italy. The 34-year-old added: "I think he was testing me but I like him as well. I miss him when he's not around, like I miss that personality. That job, for any football fan looking in, it looks like a really simple job but it's not."

Mourinho's reign in North London was littered with inconsistent results and he was sacked in April last year just 17 months into the job. The 59-year-old is famous for not holding back in his criticism of referees and, on occasion, his own players when he feels he and his team have been let down.

Mourinho has been sent off numerous times since his appointment as Roma manager last summer and was slapped with a €20,000 (£16,500) fine following his third dismissal in February.

Similar to his time in charge at Spurs, Mourinho has struggled to put together a consistent run of good form since arriving at the Stadio Olimpico. That being said, the Giallorossi are undefeated in Serie A since early January and sit sixth in the table with an outside chance on taking a Champions League spot.
