Laura Whitmore likens herself and Iain Stirling to exes Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston

Laura Whitmore has compared herself and husband Iain Stirling to exes Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston in the iconic Friends episode they starred in.

Before their infamous split, Hollywood couple Brad and Jen, now 59 and 53, excited Friends fans when Brad played Will, a pal of Ross (David Schwimmer), who despises Jennifer's character Rachel.

The golden couple married in 2001 at a lavish Malibu bash, but in 2005 the fairytale romance was over, with the pair announcing their separation.

Wishing her husband Iain a happy birthday, former Love Island presenter Laura compared the famous 2001 comedy episode to an upcoming scene in Iain's show Buffering.

Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston appeared in a Friend's episode together, where Brad's character hated Jen's (NBC)

In the clip, Laura's character wears a sharp suit and is disgusted by Iain's children TV presenter, also named Iain.

Sharing the clip, Laura wrote: "Happy Birthday to the best @iaindoesjokes Thankfully we get on better in real life! ( not going to lie playing this role was fun - Brad & Jen in Friends vibes circa 2001… that turned out well!)Buffering starts next Monday! We love you really! X"

Iain, who shares daughter Stevie Ré with Laura, replied with four love heart emojis.

The pair, who have been together since 2017 and wed in 2020, typically keep their romance out of the spotlight, but Iain praised his wife when he announced her role in Buffering.

It follows Laura leaving her role as Love Island host last year, which Iain provides the voiceover for, after two years.

Iain was on The One Show on Wednesday evening discussing the second series of his sitcom Buffering, where a trailer of the programme featured Laura in the acting role.

Speaking to co-hosts Alex Jones and Jermaine Jenas, Iain said: "The great thing about doing a comedy I guess is, it's a collaborative effort so everyone was chucking in ideas.

"Laura's such a naturally funny person so she definitely helped with the character, fleshed it out.

"We sort of gave her the skeleton and she built it into this monster really! Quite a scary individual. The character."

Laura was replaced fan favourite Maya Jama as Love Island host in October after the mum-of-one had announced she was stepping down.

Laura and Iain continue to work together, this time on Buffering (ITV)

Earlier this month, Maya, 28, said taking on the job is a "big moment for all of us" as television continues to break barriers surrounding race after the role was previously held by two white women.

Speaking to Vogue from Johannesburg, the star said: "Growing up, I never saw an East African woman host a show, and no Black or mixed-race woman hosts such a big primetime TV show, other than June Sarpong.

"This is definitely a big moment for all of us in that sense, and I hope it just opens way more doors for other people from similar backgrounds and cultures as myself."
