Laura Tobin shared the changes her family has made to their daily routine in a bid to save money and water.
The Good Morning Britain star has revealed that she shares bath water with her husband Dean Brown and their four-year-old daughter Charlotte, and has streamlined her shower routine so it lasts just six minutes.
The life hacks are all part of her new book, Everyday Ways To Save Our Planet, released by Mirror Books.
Within the pages, Laura offers plenty of tips and tricks to help people make a difference, including sharing your bath water.
She asks: "Would you share your bath water?
"We do in our house. Our shower is over the bath, so I put the plug in while I’m showering and Charlotte will sit in the bath and have a splash around. Then sometimes, my husband will get in afterwards. I know some people think this is gross, but how dirty do you have to be to leave the water unusable for the next person?
"Apparently, every now and then property pro and TV presenter Sarah Beeny also gets in the same bath water as her husband and four sons to conserve water, and singer Robbie Williams and his wife Ayda share a bath to cut down on bills. So maybe not so gross, after all…"
The 40-year-old also shares a number of facts about the shower that many people will be unaware of, including just how much water is being pumped out.
She wrote: "How long do you think you spend in the shower? On a day when I don’t wash my hair, I can be in and out in three minutes (that’s around 20 litres of water). Woop.
"But when I timed my ‘full’ shower – wash and condition hair, shave legs, body scrub etc – it took me nine minutes (a whopping 60 litres!). I honestly thought I was much quicker than that.
"It’s more than the average shower time, which is eight minutes (people aged 55-65 take around five minutes, whereas 18 to 24-year-olds take almost 12 minutes).
"To conserve water, water companies recommend we shower for no longer than four minutes, so I was determined to cut down on my time."
Laura encouraged people to take note of how long they're actually spending in the shower, and to do their best to cut the time down.
One way she recommends doing it is by singing your favourite song.
She went on: "Anyone who knows me, knows I don’t need an excuse to whack on some Bon Jovi, so I decided to give this shower song a go. I chose Living On A Prayer because it is just over four minutes long (the recommended shower time), and so far I’ve got my full shower down to six minutes (which is the length of Queen’s Bohemian Rhapsody – doable for most people).
"Even by shaving off one minute I’m saving 6.66 litres each time, which will save us money on our water bill – so you can imagine how happy my husband is about that! The money that is, not me singing Bon Jovi! Which song will you pick?"
