Laura Tobin insists on replying to negative comments in bid to educate on climate crisis

Laura Tobin has revealed that she makes a point of replying to negative comments left by fans on her social media in a bid to share knowledge on the current climate crisis.

The Good Morning Britain star, 40, revealed that when she sees a scathing comment about the hard work she does to make the planet a better place for her loved-ones, she feels compelled to reply in the hopes of encouraging others to make small every day changes which will benefit everyone.

Speaking exclusively to Mirror Online, Laura explained that during the pandemic, she was blasted by several social media trolls for flying to Svalbard in the Arctic Ocean to document the melting icebergs amid the climate crisis.

Laura was bombarded with several messages after she shared a wholesome snap of herself and her daughter Charlotte litter-picking as she attempted to encourage others to use appropriate bins when discarding of rubbish.

"As someone in the public eye, I’m used to receiving criticism for some of the things I do," Laura explained.

"Earlier this year I posted pictures of me and Charlotte litter-picking in our local area. And while most people thought we were doing a good deed and ‘saving the planet’, there were others who commented things along the lines of, “What use is litter picking when you're flying all over the world.

"What they’re referring to is my trip to Svalbard in the Arctic Ocean in September 2021. The irony of flying somewhere - which is bad for the environment - to talk about climate change is not lost on me.

"But I believe that any negative impact me, my camerman Ed and producer Ruth made by flying, was far outweighed by the positive impact of showing millions of people the true realities of the climate crisis - and the changes people made as a result.

"When we understand the problem, it's easier to fix."

Laura went on: "The negative comments don't get me though. I always read the negative comments.

"Even the most harsh ones, because that person has an opinion - and that's not just one person's opinion, there are probably quite a few people who think that - and I think it's really important for me to then explain why I have done what I've done.

"Some people will say I don't even need to reply, but I think I do, because if people are thinking that of me then I don't want to look like I'm a hypocrite.

"So, the lesson behind that picture of Charlotte and I was in that her school is right next to a really busy main road off a major motorway. She's having to pick up other people's rubbish - that's the main lesson there.

"People just threw that rubbish out the window and 80% of the litter we picked up could have been recycled, so the adults who have done that in the first place might have a bit more understanding when seeing the photo.

"After the photo was posted, loads of other mums in the school thought it was a great idea, and then their kids wanted to get litter-pickers so it has started a little generation of eco-friendly kids. The younger you are when learning about these things the better, because it then instills it in the parents to think more sustainably.

"So, I think it's important to reply to those negative comments - to encourage people to make really good changes."

Laura opened up about the negative comments she sometimes receives during a candid chapter in her brand-new book on climate change, Every Day Ways To Save Our Planet.

In her brand-new book, Laura shares clever ways in which readers can help save the planet by making small every day changes.

Throughout her informative book on climate change, Laura insisted that she will do everything in her power to make the world a better place for her daughter, and hopes that in time, the damage that has been done to the planet can one day be reversed by the actions of people who take being eco-friendly seriously.

Laura Tobin: Everyday Ways To Save Our Planet, RRP £14.99, is out on 7 April and published by Mirror Books.
