Laughter is the entire trigger. Not coughing, not sneezing, not jumping. A joke lands, the bladder empties, and the child cannot stop it once it starts.
That is giggle incontinence, and the treatment list for it is remarkably short. It just got slightly longer. A case report published online July 15 in the Journal of Paediatrics and Child Health describes a child with attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder whose giggle incontinence went into remission after treatment with atomoxetine, a nonstimulant ADHD medication. The report comes from İsmail Akaltun, a child and adolescent psychiatrist in Gaziantep, Türkiye.
