Sweden's Olympic beach volleyball champions David Ahman and Jonatan Hellvig have continued their recent dominance by capturing the world title in Adelaide.

Ahman and Hellvig prevailed over compatriots Jacob Holting Nilsson and Elmer Andersson in Sunday night's men's final.

And Tina Graudina and Anastasija Samoilova won the women's final, collecting Latvia's first-ever medal at a world championships.

The Latvians downed American stalwarts Taryn Kloth Brasher and Kristen Nuss in three sets, 21-15, 15-21, 15-11.

In the men's competition, Ahman and Hellvig only scraped into the knockout rounds after losing two pool matches - the same scenario as at last year's Paris Olympics.

The duo finished third in their Adelaide pool, separated from fourth-placed Australian pair Paul Burnett and Thomas Hodges on point ratios.

But the Swedes, who took silver at the world titles in Mexico two years ago, then tapped into their big-game experience, culminating in a 25-23, 21-19 triumph over their countrymen who were on debut at a world championships.

"It's unbelievable," Hellvig told AAP.

"We didn't really expect this coming into this tournament.

"We have had some injury problems in the last month so we didn't know what to expect.

The pair produced a near-faultless display, recording just four errors compared to 13 from their fancied American opponents.

In an all-Brazilian affair for the women's bronze medal, Carol Salgado and Rebecca Cavalcanti downed compatriots Thamela Coradello and Victoria Lopes 21-18, 22-20.

And the men's bronze medal was claimed by French underdogs Teo Rotar and Arnaud Gauthier-Rat - the 18th seeds upset Paris Olympic silver medallists Nils Ehlers and Clemens Wickler from Germany, 21-15, 21-15.
