Latifpura demolitions: Punjab officials appear before National Scheduled Castes Commission

JALANDHAR: Punjab government and Jalandhar administration officials appeared before the National Commission for Scheduled Castes at New Delhi on Tuesday on the issue of demolition of houses at Latifpura by Jalandhar Improvement Trust on December 9.

The officers including Local Government principal secretary Vivek Pratap Singh, commissioner of police S Boopathi, Jalandhar deputy commissioner Jaspreet Singh, DCP Jagmohan Singh and officials from Jalandhar Improvement Trust appeared before Commission chairman Vijay Sampla and showed the relevant record.

JIT officials said that the ousted families have been offered 2 BHK flats. It was also informed that the Local Government department had also formed a Committee to scrutinise the claims of those demanding rehabilitation,

Notably, the ousted families had already rejected the offer of the JIT at Bibi Bhani Complex. Sampla had visited Latifpura and termed the demolitions rendering people homeless ‘sarkari atiyachar’.
