There were hazardous conditions on the A66 Westbound in both directions between the A685 (Brough) and the A67 (Bowes) due to heavy snowfall.
Overnight, the wintery showers eventually faded but the Met Office warned that Monday morning will be cold and crisp with frost.
Throughout the day, winds will strengthen while a little rain is expected for many later on in the day although temperatures will gradually rise.
Looking ahead to the rest of the week, Tuesday will be slightly milder but cloudy and wet with these conditions clearing southwards midweek.
This will leave brighter but colder weather and wintry showers later on in the week.
