The Ligue 1 season kicks off with many predicting the same as Paris Saint-Germain look to secure yet another league title as they look to continue their French football dominance. With the likes of Lionel Messi, Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, it is clear to see why they are the clear favourites.
PSG are 1/12 heavy favourites with Betway to secure their 11th title ever and ninth in the last 11 years as they look forward to life under new manager Christophe Galtier, who joined from OGC Nice. On paper, it seems it will be another walkover for the Parisians with Lyon tipped to be their closest rival but at 11/1 they could well have a tough task on their hands to mount a title race according to the bookies.
The French league have three Champions League spots available with PSG beyond considering at 1/200 for a top three finish while Marseille ( 6/5 ), Lyon ( 11/8 ) and Monaco ( 6/4 ) all in contention to fight for a place in UEFA's top European competition. Other teams include Nice and Stade Rennais both priced at 5/2 could well surprise a few and challenge for a top three spot too.
Down at the bottom of the table and Ligue 1 will see four teams drop down to Ligue 2 this season as the top tier of French Football reverts back to an 18-team league. They are reverting back to the previous format having been a 20-team league since the 2002/03 season.
It means we could see the likes of Clermont Foot and Lorient having to go one step further and avoid the drop having finished above the play-off spot equal on points. Newly-promoted sides Ligue 2 champions Ajaccio and Auxerre - who beat St Etienne in the relegation play-off - are both the two favourites for the drop with the second-tier champions 8/15 for the drop while Auxerre are 10/11.
