Latest Greece travel restrictions for Brits including Covid tests and face mask rules

Greece holidays are on the cards for Brits this summer as both the mainland and Greek Islands are open to UK travellers - although there are still Covid travel rules in place.

The country still has rules including Covid tests, although these differ depending on your vaccination status. Still, there's less admin to plan this summer, as just last month the holiday hotspot axed passenger locator forms for travellers.

With the UK's own travel rules having ended, that makes for a holiday with minimal pre-trip planning whether you're looking for a city break in Athens or looking to explore the Greek Islands.

It's worth noting that there are still local restrictions in place, such as the use of face masks and vaccine passes.

To give you a helping hand we've put together a guide below which includes Greece's latest travel rules, as well as its face mask and Covid vaccine pass requirements.

Greece and the islands are open to UK tourists, but the rules differ depending on your vaccination status.

If you're fully vaccinated, you can visit Greece without needing a pre-travel Covid test.

If you're unvaccinated or partially vaccinated, you will need to be able to show either proof of recovery from Covid, or proof of a negative Covid test result. The latter can be either a PCR test taken within 72 hours before arrival, or an antigen test within 48 hours.

Greece face mask rules

According to the UK Foreign Office: "It is mandatory to wear a mask in all indoor public spaces, in all areas of Greece. In certain areas, such as in supermarkets and pharmacies, and on public transport, you will be required to wear either double masks (at least one of which should be surgical), or an N95/FFP2 mask."

Covid vaccine passes in Greece

Proof of vaccination is required to enter the venues including shops, restaurants, museums and cinemas, to name a few.

Under its travel advice the UK Foreign Office says that if you're not fully vaccinated or if you're partially vaccinated, you won't be able to enter nightclubs, restaurants indoors, theatres, cinemas, museums, exhibitions, conferences, gyms and stadiums.

However, you can visit shops and restaurants outdoors if you have proof of a negative Covid test taken within 48 hours before entry - this can be a rapid antigen test.

  • Travel restrictions and local rules can change quickly due to the nature of the pandemic. Always check the UK Foreign Office's latest Greece travel advice before booking or going on a trip.
