Coronavirus infection rates have fallen in all ten boroughs of Greater Manchester. After weeks of soaring rates, the number of cases in the region is down 9pc on last week.
A total of 16,134 people tested positive for coronavirus across Greater Manchester in the week ending on March 31 - down 1,535 cases compared to the previous week.
The infection rate remains lower than the national average in all ten boroughs. Stockport continues to have the highest coronavirus infection rate in the region.

The borough recorded a rate of 724.7 cases per 100,000 people in the week ending March 31, according to the latest data from the UK Health Security Agency. The lowest infection rate is in Oldham, where the rate is 416.6 cases per 100,000 people.
In Greater Manchester as a whole, the infection rate is now 569 cases per 100,000 population. The infection rate in the region is lower than the national average, which is 747.5 cases per 100,000 people.
Hospital admissions
In the week ending on March 27, a total of 726 patients were admitted to Greater Manchester NHS hospitals with Covid-19. That is 159 more than the week before, a rise of 28pc.
On Tuesday March 29, there were 15 Mechanical Ventilation (MV) beds occupied by Covid patients in Greater Manchester NHS hospitals. That is one more than a week earlier. This is the most recent available data for hospital admissions, the figures for NHS trusts are not updated daily.
Deaths
In the week ending March 31, a total of 30 people died within 28 days of a positive Covid test across Greater Manchester, which is 7 more than the week before. Since the start of the pandemic, there have been a total of 963,204 confirmed coronavirus cases in Greater Manchester. There has been a total of 8,886 deaths.
Cases reported in each of the ten boroughs
Wigan
The trend is down in Wigan, where there were 1,935 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending March 31, which is 161 fewer than the previous seven days. That is down by 8 per cent compared to the previous week.
The latest infection rate in Wigan is 585.1 cases per 100,000 people, which is lower than the national average.
Manchester
There was a fall of nine per cent in cases in Manchester over the week ending March 31, and the infection rate is now 526 cases per 100,000 population. Manchester recorded 2,923 positive Covid-19 tests over the seven-day period, and that is 276 fewer than the previous week.
Tameside
In Tameside, the latest infection rate is 609.4 cases per 100,000 people and the number of cases has gone down by ten per cent. A total of 1,384 people tested positive for Covid in Tameside over the seven days ending on March 31, which is 159 fewer than the week before.
Oldham
Oldham, which has the lowest infection rate in the region, recorded 990 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending March 31, which is 88 fewer than the previous seven days. The coronavirus infection rate in Oldham is now 416.6 cases per 100,000 people and is down by eight per cent week-on-week.
Bolton
In Bolton, the number of cases is down by one per cent compared to the previous week - leaving the infection rate at 486.4 cases per 100,000 population. There were 1,402 positive Covid-19 tests in Bolton in the week ending March 31, which was 20 fewer than the previous seven days.
Salford
Salford recorded 1,575 coronavirus cases, which is 101 fewer than in the previous seven days. The latest infection rate in Salford is 599.5 cases per 100,000 people and that is down six per cent week-on-week.
Rochdale
Rochdale is an area where the trend is down. The latest infection rate here is 464.5 cases per 100,000 people. There were 1,039 cases recorded in Rochdale, which is 25 fewer than the previous week - a fall of two per cent.
Trafford
There were 1,679 positive tests over the last week in Trafford, which is 360 fewer than in the previous week. The week-on-week trend in Trafford is down by 18 per cent and the latest infection rate is 706.7 cases per 100,000 people.
Stockport
In Stockport, there were 2132 positive Covid-19 tests in the week ending March 31, which is 230 fewer than the previous seven days. Stockport has the highest infection rate in the region. The infection rate in Stockport is down slightly compared with the previous day and the week-on-week trend is down by ten per cent.
Bury
Bury saw a total of 1,075 cases in the week ending March 31, which is 115 fewer than the previous week. That is a fall of ten per cent. In Bury, the most recent coronavirus infection rate is now 563.7 cases per 100,000 people.
