A plot of land at the junction of Tin Street and Clifton Street could be set for six new apartments. The plans for the self contained apartments which were submitted to Cardiff Council on May 23 state that the three storey building will consist of two-bed apartments.
There are also proposals for the building to include cycle storage, a communal terrace and green roof to promote biodiversity. A design and access statement attached to the planning application states: "Historic maps identify that there used to be a building on the site facing Clifton Street.
"This has long been demolished. The site has become an eyesore and its neglected state impacts negatively on this part of the local area."
Fairwater
Demolition work to part of a Cardiff high school has been given the go ahead by the council. Cardiff Council has ratified the proposal for Block B of Cantonian High, which is to the West of the building complex on Fairwater Road, to be demolished as part of the wider plan to combine three schools in the area.
The development of Fairwater Community Campus will see Cantonian High, Riverbank School and Woodlands School rebuilt on the same site. Once constructed, the new campus will offer sixth form provision at Cantonian High for up to 250 pupils and increase the specialist resource base (SRB) for learners with autism which is hosted at the school to 30 places.
The relocation of Woodlands School will increase its capacity to 240 places and Riverbank School will see its capacity increased to 112 places.
Ely
An application has been made to open a new Italian restaurant on Grand Avenue. The plans submitted to Cardiff Council are for a change of use of a former shop next to Queen's Fish Bar into a pizza restaurant.
Documents attached to the planning application do not reveal the name of the pizza restaurant that the site would be intended for. However, a design statement reads: "This will improve the street scene rather than a closed-up shop.
"This will be an Italian restaurant, as there is a demand for such use. The proposed end user is a national chain with such units in other parts of the UK."
Grangetown
A popular American fast food chain looks set to open another location in Cardiff. Popeyes has submitted a planning application to Cardiff Council for the installation of new signs at what used to be the Pizza Hut restaurant in Cardiff Bay Retail Park on Ferry Road.
The application confirms that the fried chicken chain is set to open a second restaurant in the city. Popeyes opened its first branch in Cardiff at St John Street on March 23. You can read more about that here.
The new restaurant in Cardiff will include a drive through. There are currently 25 Popeyes restaurants across the UK according to the fast food chain's website.
Cyncoed
Plans have been submitted for the demolition of a large detached house in the north of Cardiff and the construction of two new houses in its place. The application for the demolition of the existing house on land next to 109 Cyncoed Road includes proposals to build two five-bedroom houses and attached garages.
Artist impressions of the development seem to show a separate garage building included in the plans.
