Late Late Show respond to rumours One Direction will reunite for last James Corden show

One Direction fans were sent into a frenzy after rumours started to circulate they would reunite to mark James Cordon's last ever Late Late Show.

However, the talk show has responded to the speculation and left fans heartbroken as they confirmed the beloved boyband will not be making an appearance during the big finale.

Taking to Twitter the official page for the show, hosted by 44-year-old James, wrote: "Nobody loves the boys more than us … but this story just isn't true.

"What is true is we've got an absolutely brilliant 2 hour finale planned to celebrate 8 years of #LateLateShow at 10pm on April 27th."

Devastated fans were quick to respond to the announcement, with one person saying their "heart just shattered".

Another fan is still holding out hope for a reunion as they tweeted: "My toxic trait is believing they'll still be on the show."

"I have severe trust issues," a third wrote.

James will present the final episode of his hugely successful US talk show on April 27.

The episode promises to be an epic extravaganza and while exact details are being kept under wraps, big stars like the Kardashians are set to make an appearance.

Tom Cruise, Ben Affleck, Mila Kunis, Seth Meyers, Kate Hudson, Bryan Cranston, Billy Porter and Sharon Stone are also among the stars joining James in the show's final weeks.

Adele was also revealed as the final guest for James' Carpool Karaoke segment.

Singer Adele, 34, was seen filming with James in Los Angeles last week as they drove around in in a black Range Rover SUV while singing some of her most iconic songs.

The pair were joined by several crew members and a police escort as they filmed Carpool Karaoke.

James recently admitted he finds the thought of leaving his show "absolutely terrifying" as his departure is leaving him on "unstable ground".

He has interviewed some of the world's biggest stars on the show but will make his final appearance at the end of April.

Talking at a PaleyFest event in Los Angeles, the actor-turned-presenter said: "I haven't felt this scared since I decided to take the show, to move here. I haven't felt on such unstable ground.

"I have to embrace that fear... I'm just aware that what I'm trying to do isn't the road that's often travelled.

"To go from like National Theatre, writing a TV show on the BBC, Broadway, host of a late-night talk show, shooting stuff in the middle of that, stopping the late-night talk show and then going, 'Oh, I'd like to do another play now.'

"It just isn't the road that's been travelled to my knowledge, so with that comes a huge amount of fear. It's terrifying, it's absolutely terrifying."
