Singing legend Lata Mangeshkar, who enthralled millions with her divine voice for eight decades, was cremated with full state honours in Mumbai on Sunday.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi was among the luminaries from politics and entertainment industry present at her funeral at Shivaji Park in Dadar area in the evening.
Modi left the venue after offering her floral tributes. Floral tributes were also paid to her at Shivaji Park on behalf of President Ram Nath Kovind.
Lata’s brother Hridaynath Mangeshkar lit the funeral pyre of the singing legend, who died at 92 in a hospital here on Sunday morning after multi-organ failure.
Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray, Deputy CM Ajit Pawar, NCP chief Sharad Pawar, actors Shah Rukh Khan and Aamir Khan, cricketer Sachin Tendulkar and MNS chief Raj Thackeray were among those present at the funeral.
The mortal remains of Lata Mangeshkar, draped in the national flag, were taken in a truck from her residence in south Mumbai to Shivaji Park for the last rites.

The Karnataka government has announced a two-day mourning in honour of the doyen of Indian music and Bharat Ratna awardee Lata Mangeshkar, who passed away in Mumbai on Sunday.
An order said the government was conveying deep sorrow over the demise.
"In honour of the departed soul, there will be Statewide mourning on February 6 and 7. During this period, there will not be any official, public entertainment programme. The Indian tricolour will fly half-mast," the order read.- PTI

Condoling the demise of the noted singer, he said her passing away is an immense loss to the nation and the void is going to be impossible to fill.
"I have learnt with deepest sorrow about the passing away of Lata Mangeshkar. India has lost a great daughter. She was the 'Nightingale of India' and through her songs made an immense contribution to the cultural integration of the country," Mr. Singh said in his condolence message.

Arrangements afoot for Lata Mangeshkar's State funeral at Shivaji Park in Mumbai
The funeral of legendary singer Lata Mangeshkar will held on an open ground in Mumbai's Shivaji Park, where her body will be kept for the public to pay tributes on Sunday evening, officials of the city civic body said.
The site where the 92-year-old singer's funeral will be performed with full state honours is about 100-metre away from Shiv Sena founder Balasaheb Thackeray's memorial, on the west side of the Shivaji Park, located in Dadar area.
Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Commissioner Iqbal Singh Chahal told PTI that they have arranged about 25 kg sandalwood for Mangeshkar's cremation along with other necessary things.
Around 2,000 sq ft of the park's area has been barricaded for the funeral proceedings, a BMC official said.
Mr. Chahal said they have erected two stages inside the barricaded area of the park.
On one platform, the singer's mortal remains would be kept for public 'darshan' (viewing), and her various photographs will be displayed another stage, he said.
Another platform was being erected near it with cement blocks for the last rites.
People started arriving at the park since 1.00 pm to witness the funeral of the legendary singer.- PTI

"I have lost a friend, the most beautiful human being," Rehman told PTI.
“It is truly a loss for everyone in many different ways. For me, I don’t know what to say, we may not be talking to each other every day but we both enjoyed each other's company, we knew each other well. People would often think that she is a shy person but I have seen her crack jokes. The time we spent together will always stay with me,” the actor added.
“We would often send each other a lot of things, like I would send her chocolates, kebabs, which were her most favourite, and biryani. In return, she would send me beautiful saris.”

"It is a very very sad day for all of us," Rahman said, adding: "Lataji was not just a singer, not just an icon, but part of India's consciousness, the Indianness, the Hindustani music, Urdu and Hindi poetry.
She has sung in so many languages." "This void is going to remain forever for all of us," he said.
His late father had a picture of Mangeshkar near his bed and would wake up seeing her image and get inspired before going for recordings, Rahman said. His father R.K. Shekhar was a music composer.
"So, it starts there," he said in a video posted on his YouTube channel, adding that he was so lucky to record a few songs and sing along with her and be a part of her show where, "I learnt probably one of the most important things, about performing on stage.

Lata fans throng her birthplace in Indore, demand naming locality after her
The Sikh Mohalla street in Indore, where Lata Mangeshkar was born, was on Sunday flooded with fans who demanded that the locality be named after the music legend.
Mangeshkar, who died in a Mumbai hospital on Sunday, was born in the locality which is adjacent to a gurdwara on September 28, 1929. A cloth shop now operates from the place where she was born.
After word of her demise spread, her fans thronged the locality. The street, adjoining the local district court, is known as “Court Wali Gully” and “Chat Wali Gully” because of the snacks shops there.
“We have been asking the local administration for the last several years that this street be named after Lata Mangeshkar,” Sanjay Patel, a local music and culture expert, told PTI.
Indore's Lok Sabha MP Shankar Lalwani said, “We put her picture at the corner of the street to mark her birthday last year.”
Locals said there was a picture put up by the State Directorate of Culture and Indore Municipal Corporation near Mangeshkar's birth place, with the inscription: "We are proud that our city Indore is the birthplace of Lata Mangeshkar, the divine voice of the universe.”
Lata's father Dinanath Mangeshkar ran a drama troupe and this troupe reached Indore during their travel to different cities. Shortly after Lata was born, the family left Indore.- PTI

Security tightened at Mumbai's Shivaji Park ahead of Lata Mangeshkar's funeral
Mumbai Police have beefed up security in and around the Shivaji Park in Dadar area for the funeral of veteran singer Lata Mangeshkar, who died at a hospital here on Sunday morning, an official said.
Prominent personalities from the film industry, politicians and other well-wishers of the late singer are expected to arrive to pay tributes to her, hence traffic on some of the major roads here will be diverted, he said.
Keeping in mind the movement of VIPs at her residence on Pedder Road in south Mumbai and the Shivaji Park, barricading has been done at some key spots in those areas, the official said, adding the police will ensure a smooth movement of vehicles.- PTI

"Lata didi was a melodious dream not only to the Indian musical world but to the world music. Her demise has disrupted that dream. A divine voice is no more with us. She enriched all of us through her angelic voice. It is hard to imagine that she isn't with us anymore. But her songs will remain with us till the end of time," Maharashtra deputy CM Ajit Pawar said.
