Scotrail: Last Glasgow to Edinburgh train now hour and half earlier

Glasgow is set to see a temporary timetable on some Scotrail services from Monday 23 May amid a pay dispute between ScotRail and the Aslef union.

There will be cuts to about 700 ScotRail services, which are expected to be devastating for many passengers and businesses - with some seeing the last train on many routes departing before 20:00, reports the BBC.

ScotRail claims the changes are due to pay disputes with unions after passengers faced "more cancellations than is acceptable".

The operator says it relies on drivers working overtime or on rest days, "like many other train operators across Britain", but many drivers are refusing to comply.

ScotRail’s service delivery director David Simpson has said that the temporary timetable could be in place for weeks.

Glasgow Central will see its last direct departure to Edinburgh Waverley at 7.47pm instead of 10.14pm while the last train from Edinburgh to Glasgow is now at 10.15pm (previously 11.45pm).

The last train from Glasgow Queen Street to Edinburgh is also at 10.15pm instead of 11.45pm according to latest timetabling on the ScotRail website.

Glasgow's last train to Ayr has been pulled from 12.15am to 10pm while the last train from Glasgow to Dumfries is now three hours earlier at 7.13pm.

The new timetables cover Monday – Friday, but Scotrail are currently working on temporary timetables for Saturdays, which will be broadly similar as Mon-Fri, and for Sundays as well.

David Simpson, ScotRail Service Delivery Director, said: "We are very sorry to customers for the disruption of recent days. We know what customers want more than anything is certainty and reliability, which is why we are introducing a temporary timetable.

"We want to resolve this dispute with the trade unions and move forward together to provide the safest, greenest, and most reliable railway we can for Scotland. We remain open to further talks with the trade unions.

"We're asking customers to check their journey on our website, mobile app, and through our social media channels as train times will have changed."

The new temporary timetable can be viewed on the Scotrail website here.
