Popular Liverpool takeaway announces closure saying 'another one bites the dust'

Lark Lane takeaway Woo Tan Scran has announced its closure.

The takeaway, which was Liverpool's first vegan Chinese chippy, took to Instagram to announce they had decided not to continue with their current lease on Lark Lane. They added they were "not sure what the future holds" but they needed to leave for the takeaway to continue.

The restaurant was set up by Jay Baker, Tim Leah, Conrad Sharp and Alex Woo in 2019 after they saw a gap in the market for a vegan Chinese takeaway. In a full statement about their decision the team said: "Another one bites the dust… Unfortunately gang we’ve decided not to continue on with our current lease at Woo Tan Scran, Lark Lane.

"We will be closing our doors on Sunday 2nd of October. We are down but not out, just saying cya to our little chip shop. We are not sure what the future holds but we need to make this move for woo tan to continue. We will still be running a reduced menu from a centralized kitchen in town. Times are s**t for the little guys. No two ways about it.

"Thank you for all the love and support over the years, the Woo Tan Scran Gang has been incredible. Let’s go out with a bang, a few more weeks of mayhem (probably power cuts), sick tunes and belter scrans. Get down if you can to help us say goodbye to our little chippy. Lots of love WTS"

Dozens of people responded to the announcement saying they were "gutted' and "devastated". User @steely_fran said; "Gutted to hear you're leaving the Lane boys but you'll smash it elsewhere. Shaolin scran forever," while Sophiaflaherty added: "Absolutely devastating news". em_halvorsen added: "No way absolutely banging scran."

Joint owner, Alex, said the idea for the restaurant came while having a pint when they realised there was a gap in the market. He added: "Three weeks later we viewed the property, bid on it and two and a half months later, here we are. It’s mad. With Bundobust and Mowgli, places are doing brilliant Indian vegan food, but no-one was doing Chinese so we knew there was a gap in the market for it.”

Tim said: “There are plenty of places you can go to a Chinese sit-down restaurant and get decent vegan stuff but, there’s nothing like this where you just rock in on a Friday night when you’ve had a couple of pints, get a vegan Chinese meal and go home.” Woo Tan Scran on Lark Lane will be closing on Saturday, October 2.
