Large police presence at field in Walker where travellers were staying after report of threats

A large police presence was seen at Newcastle field where travellers were staying after threats were allegedly made.

ChronicleLive understands that people had been staying in caravans on the field off Trojan Avenue in Walker, Newcastle, for around a week.

Officers attended the area, which is used as a football pitch, at just after 7pm on Wednesday evening. Around seven police vehicles, including both cars and vans, were parked up in the area.

Northumbria Police said they had received a report that threats had been made but nobody was injured.

They said no arrests have yet been made and enquiries into the incident are currently ongoing.

A spokesperson for the force said: "Shortly after 7pm yesterday, we received a report of a disturbance on Trojan Avenue in Newcastle. It was reported that threats had been made to members of the public.

"Officers attended the scene and no-one was found to have been injured."
