The landowner of a former pub on Alfreton Road in Radford has been served a notice to clean up the site. The city council confirmed the site of the old Windmill pub was being used by rough sleepers.
So the authority has served as notice to the landlord and the rough sleepers have been referred to Framework, a charity that delivers health and care support, the council confirmed.
A tweet from the ASB Nottingham Twitter account, run by community protection officers, read: "Waste cleared from empty pub in Radford land following Notice served on landowner."
Pictures show windows from the former pub smashed and fences around the building that are broken.
Built in the 1960s by Shipstones Brewery when it was known as The Windmill, the pub has under gone several name changes - and was one called The Local - but has been vacant for the last 10 years. Plans were submitted back in 2020 to knock down the building and redevelop the site into flats. The site was subsequently sold ahead of its redevelopment, and people nearby said the pub was 'well-respected' when it was The Windmill.
A new planning application was submitted to the city council last year to redevelop the site with three shops and 25 student flats. The plans are still awaiting a decision by the local authority.
Real ale campaigners fondly remember Alfreton Road as a stretch where "there was virtually a pub on every corner all the way down". Drinkers previously explained how the area has dramatically changed and become almost unrecognisable in recent years.
