Lando Norris has signed a new multi-million pound deal to keep him at McLaren until the end of the 2025 season and spearhead their quest to return to world champions status.

Norris admitted he held talks with other front-running teams on the grid before agreeing terms with the team he began his Formula 1 career with in 2019.

After signing the new deal, the 22-year-old said: “I have to weigh in all the factors. I look at the best options for me. One, what can I be most successful in and be the best but what I believe is the best for me as a driver and person and, in the longer term, what is best for me.

“This is still where I want to be, where I want to achieve race wins, podiums and championships with. I have the belief the next two and three years when we get the wind tunnel up and running…we can be back towards the front even more than I hope we can be this year.”

McLaren finished fourth in last year’s constructors’ championship with Norris their leading driver in sixth place with four podium finishes during the course of the season.

Norris admitted it was too early to have ambitions for titles despite the major overhaul of the regulations for this season.

And McLaren principal Andreas Seidl, who also said he had committed his long-term future to the team, said: “We want to get back to the position where we fight for race wins regularly and we fight for the championship.

“We still have some building blocks to finish first before we have everything in place in order to be there again. We know Lando will be with us for four more years. We definitely believe he’ll be a key element of achieving these targets we’re having.”

“It clearly shows he believes in the journey we are on and believes we can help him fulfil his personal goals and dreams in the sport.”
