Lanarkshire youth club goes all out to raise cash for EK hospice

A youth club has raised £1500 for an East Kilbride-based hospice after hosting a number of events - including a fun-filled family day.

East Kilbride Youth Club (EKYC) went all out for Kilbryde Hospice, which is based in the grounds of the town's Hairmyres Hospital, and provides care for those with life-limiting illnesses and their families within South Lanarkshire.

A Sportsman’s Dinner, which is a regular event, was held in November and a family fun day was organised in June which saw everyone come together.

They also had EK food bank Loaves and Fishes attend on the day and donated goods to them.

Alana McLeod from EKYC told Lanarkshire Live: "The family fun day was a new event that the EKYC Women's Committee organised for our players and their families.

"It included various bouncy castles, Total Wipeout, bungee football and we charged for beat the goalie and 'dunk the coach' which, as you can imagine, was a great success.

"The EKYC executive committee consists our chairman Denny Byrne, treasurer Alex Lawrence and then Mark McCreadie, John Costello, Mark Howarth, Stewart Dunlop and Frank Gill.

"The ladies committee consists of myself, Michelle McMillan, Donna Anderson, Sarah Stokes, Erica Murtha and Claire McGowan.

"It was a real joint effort between the committees as well as the all the coaches and helpers who dedicated their time to making the day such a smash hit with the children and generated the money towards the donations."

A Kilbryde Hospice spokesman told us: “Kilbryde Hospice are very grateful for EKYC’s recent donation of £1500 to the hospice.

A whole host of activities were arranged (EKN)

"The group raised much-needed funds for the hospice by running two events over the past eight months.

"Creative fundraising initiatives like these contribute positively to the sense of community within South Lanarkshire.

"The funds will help Kilbryde Hospice continue to provide support to those in South Lanarkshire who are suffering from life-limiting illnesses, as well as their carers.

"We would like to thank the members of EKYC’s women’s committee and their executive committee for organising these events.

"We’d also like to thank everyone who worked hard to ensure both were enjoyable for those who attended. We hope everyone enjoyed themselves on both occasions.”

And tickets are also now on sale for the raffle drawn at the Annual Golf Day next year.

First prize is a brand new car, second is a luxury holiday for two and third is a £1000 cash prize.
