Lanarkshire widow joins politicians in blasting Boris over lockdown parties

A Lanarkshire woman who lost her husband due to COVID has blasted the Prime Minister over his conduct during lockdown.

Gillian Keeper’s husband Justin lost his battle with coronavirus on April 11 last year having been admitted to Wishaw General two weeks earlier.

Gillian and 47-year-old Justin had been due to celebrate their 20th wedding anniversary last August.

Speaking to Lanarkshire Live this week, Gillian says Boris Johnston’s conduct and the controversy around parties in Downing Street has left her absolutely disgusted.

“I am sickened to be honest,” mum-of-two Gillian told us.

“For the government to be making the rules and then breaking is just disgraceful.

“They were blatantly breaking the rules despite the sacrifices people were making. People have lost their lives and I don’t think they realise what he and others have done.

“It’s extremely disappointing."

The Prime Minister has faced calls to go from opposition politicians as well as Tory parliamentarians.

Lanarkshire MSP Meghan Gallacher is one Conservative who believes Mr Johnson should go.

She told Lanarkshire Live : “The Prime Minister has betrayed the trust and faith shown him in by the public.

“The restrictions that were in place at this time were in place for everyone and there should be consequences for those that failed to follow them.

“People across Lanarkshire made enormous and emotional sacrifices during the pandemic and I share their anger at these revelations.

“I support the calls made by Douglas Ross. The position of the Prime Minister is now untenable and he should resign now."

Motherwell and Wishaw SNP MP, Marion Fellows, Tweeted: “It is utterly contemptable that while people in Motherwell and Wishaw, our NHS and other frontline services made sacrifices throughout the pandemic, Boris Johnson and his pals were hosting parties in Downing Street and breaking the rules.

“From unlawful COVID contracts to a House of Lords stuffed with cronies and unelected Tory donors, it is clear that Westminster is broken.

“True to form, the Tories continue to show that it is one rule for them and another rule for everyone else.

“It is time for Boris Johnson and his corrupt government to go. Enough is enough, Boris Johnson must resign.”
