Lanarkshire venue set to hold day of events to mark Black History Month

A Lanarkshire arts venue is to hold a day of events to acknowledge Black History Month.

A varied day of activities has been scheduled at the No 18 venue in Rutherglen for this Friday, October 21.

An Afrobeat Dance Workshop and Disco will be held in conjunction with Ark Studios from 1.30pm until 2.30pm, providing an opportunity to learn Afrobeat steps incorporating fun, active footwork with high energy rhythms.

At 5.30pm there is an Afro-Caribbean cooking class being held, offering the chance to broaden your culinary skills.

Join award-winning chef Mr T and learn how to re-create his infused African-Caribbean curry in a lesson that is guaranteed to be fun, informative and delectable.

Lastly, No 18’s community cinema will host a screening of the film Respect, starting at 6.15pm.

This biographical musical drama follows the rise of Aretha Franklin’s career – and is a remarkable true story of her journey to find her voice.
