Lanarkshire's newest ale festival hoping to serve the perfect pour this weekend

A new festival is coming to Rutherglen this weekend - and if you’re a fan of beer, then you’re guaranteed to love it.

The Real Ale Festival takes place on Friday and Saturday (March 25 and 26) at Number 18 on Farmeleon Road.

It will see many stalls with ale and beer set up, with all proceeds being donated to local charities.

The festival is being organised by the Rotary Club in partnership with CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale), which has hosted several similar events around the UK.

Andrew Cattanch of the Rotary Club told Lanarkshire Live : “Last year we ran a successful fair, we couldn’t do it the year before because of COVID.

"But we’re hoping to run a few events this year, the first of which is the ale festival.

“It’s the first time we’ve done anything relating to beer. We did an antique style the year before lockdown and we plan to do it again. We’re collaborating with CAMRA for the first time to do the festival.

“We help local charities, we support Rain or Shine, we help with the Ukraine transport costs, as well as helping the local foodbank.”

Advance tickets for the festival are still available but people will also be able to pay on Friday and Saturday.

Those with advance tickets will be given £15 worth of beer tokens to use in the stand, if they run out, more tokens can be purchased. The tickets are for a three-hour session.

Jonathan Kemp from CAMRA added: “I grew up in Cambuslang, and always thought the area could do with an ale festival. When we came out from Covid, we wanted to get a small thing up and running. Rutherglen was the ideal venue.

“We run an ale festival in Glasgow every year, which is a bigger event. It requires a lot of organisation.

“We hope that if this is successful then we’ll be able to do it again.

“Working in collaboration with The Rotary Club has been so easy and everything has come together quite nicely.

“After the festival, all the money will be added up and divided among local charities, it goes back to the community.”

The festival will be open from 12pm-10pm on both Friday and Saturday and have a selection of cask and keg ales.

Advance tickets are still available online .
