Lanarkshire primary teacher denies kissing 11-year-old boy in PE cupboard

A teacher alleged to have engaged in sexual activity with two schoolboys has denied claims she kissed a pupil in a store cupboard.

Carol Ann White is accused of being intimate with the boys while employed at two different Lanarkshire primary schools.

The 39-year-old, of Uddingston, has pled not guilty to two separate charges between August 2018 and May 2020 and is on trial at Airdrie Sheriff Court.

The mum-of-two told the court she had been a teacher since 2010 and 'no concerns' had been raised about her classroom ability and said she had previously been rated as a 'high standard practising teacher' following an inspection.

Prosecutors claim she forced one 12-year-old boy, who has special educational needs, to put his hand down the front of her trousers. It is also alleged she kissed another boy, aged 11, while the pair were alone in a school store cupboard.

She has denied any wrongdoing and branded claims she had kissed the boy in the store cupboard untrue.

Under questioning from defence advocate Graham Robertson, White said: "It is absolutely not true.

"That PE cupboard was frequented by loads of children and adults and I can't even recall a day where I was in that cupboard with him.

"We could have been in there and I've forgotten about it but, as for the kiss, absolutely nothing of that nature took place."

Asked by her lawyer if she took 'sexual gratification' from contact with young males, White replied: "Absolutely not."

Jurors had been shown a video interview where the 11-year-old boy told police White was 'manipulative' after she kissed him in a cupboard.

He claimed she told him he was a 'good kisser' before leaving the cupboard.

The boy said: "I'm here because of a teacher who I thought was really nice, but was actually weird.

"She was manipulative. I thought she was a good person who would do nothing wrong, but you can't judge a book by its cover.

"For the last year I've felt like I had to protect her because I thought she was this nice person but she really wasn't.

"She used to rub me against her breasts.

"I told you she had just given me a peck but it was a kiss that went on for about 10 seconds, she then said I was a good kisser.

"She smacked me on the bum as I walked into the corridor."

He added: "If you were Miss White's teacher's pet then she would favour you. It felt quite good.

"Looking back I feel disgusted."

All of the alleged offences are said to have happened in two primary schools, the Time Capsule in Coatbridge, an outdoor activity centre near Oban, Argyll, and at White's home.

The trial before Sheriff Morag Shankland continues.
