Police in Airdrie have confirmed they have found a body in a search for a missing man.
We told you earlier today how cops had launched an appeal for information to find Martin Simpson.
The 54-year-old had been reported missing from his Oatbank Street home on Monday morning.
Speaking to Lanarkshire Live today, his family said they were “worried sick” about the grandfather, who called his disappearance “completely out of character”.
Tonight their worst fears have been realised, after a body was found in the search for the father-of-two.
A statement from Police Scotland read: “A body has been found during searches for Martin Simpson.
“His family have been made aware.
“There are no suspicious circumstances and a report will be submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
Speaking to Lanarkshire Live earlier, his daughter Donna exclusively told how Martin had been “absolutely fine recently” with “nothing out of the ordinary going on”.
The family were first made aware of his disappearance when his work called on Monday to say he hadn’t turned up.
She added he had “two grandchildren who he dotes on”.
