Lanarkshire police again step up search for missing Kilsyth man

Police searching for a missing Kilsyth man have been speaking to locals two weeks on since his disappearance.

And they have told how his family are “extremely worried about him”.

We told you last month how concern was growing over the welfare of Alexander McMillan, with renewed appeals from police to help trace him.

That led to officers taking to the streets of his home town a week on from when he was last seen, speaking to pedestrians and motorists between 11.30pm on Monday and 1.30am on Tuesday morning earlier this week.

Now officers have again stepped up their efforts to find the missing 46-year-old.

Inspector Susan Rae told Lanarkshire Live today: “Alexander’s family are extremely worried about him.

“They want to make sure he is safe and well and urge him to get in touch if he sees this appeal.

“It’s now been two weeks since Alexander was last seen and it’s not like him not to be in contact with friends or family for this length of time.

“Extensive searches and enquiries continue in the Kilsyth area and I would like to thank the public for their support and assistance with our enquiries.”

This week, seven pedestrians and 11 drivers were stopped on the town’s Howe Road, near Manse Road, between 11.30pm on Monday, May 9 and 1.30am on Tuesday, May 10.

As well as speaking to those who may have seen the 46-year-old in the area at the time he was last seen, officers are also appealing to anyone who may have dashcam footage of the area at that time to come forward.

Police told us that the last sighting of the Kilsyth man was Constarry Road in Croy on Wednesday (April 27).

Investigating officers said family and friends have not spoken with him since.

Alexander is described as around 6ft 1in, of slim build with a long grey unkempt beard and receding hair.

At that time he was wearing a navy hooded jumper, a baseball cap, grey trousers or jogging bottoms and dark coloured Adidas Gazelle trainers.

He was carrying two rucksacks - one white and grey with a ‘Timberland’ logo, and the other blue/white/grey striped.

He was also carrying a fishing rod in a carry case.

Anyone with any information should contact Police via 101.

Information can be left anonymously via Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
