A Lanarkshire MSP has called on shamed MP Margaret Ferrier to "do the decent thing" and quit her position.
Monica Lennon, a Central Scotland list MSP for Labour, says the Rutherglen and Hamilton West representative has lost any authority due to her actions.
In August Ms Ferrier pled guilty to to culpably and recklessly exposing the public to coronavirus in 2020, when she travelled to and from London despite knowing she had symptoms of the disease.
A new probe by the Parliamentary Commissioner for Standards will seek to discover if her “actions caused significant damage to the reputation of the House of Commons as a whole, or of its Members generally,” and Ms Lennon says that the inquiry should cause Ms Ferrier to stand down.
She told Lanarkshire Live : “We don’t need another investigation into Margaret Ferrier.
"We need her to finally do the right thing for the people of Rutherglen and Hamilton West and resign.
"Every probe into her unlawful conduct is a distraction and expense to the public purse, at a time when thousands of people and businesses in our communities are struggling to cope with the cost crisis.
"Our local communities need a Member of Parliament who can hold the chaotic and incompetent Tory UK government to account. Margaret Ferrier has lost any authority to do so.
"The courts have already ruled that Ms Ferrier broke the law.
"Countless lives were put at risk by her selfish actions.
"With the cost crisis hurting people and local businesses, Rutherglen and Hamilton West need a new representative at Westminster to fight for our communities."
Depending on the findings of the inquiry, the matter could then be referred to the committee on standards.
Ms Ferrier was elected as an SNP representative, but now sits as an independent after being stripped of the whip by her party.
