East Kilbride, Strathaven and Lesmahagow MP, Dr Lisa Cameron, joined thousands of individuals, communities, schools and businesses marking Clean Air Day recently.
Clean Air Day is a global, annual, single day, air pollution campaign.
In June every year, it encourages everyone to think about what they can do to help improve air quality.
Air pollution is the biggest environmental threat to health, no matter who you are or where you live.
It can harm every organ and can shorten lives, contribute towards chronic illness and increase risk from Covid-19.
Every year, air pollution causes up to 36,000 deaths in the UK.
The World Health Organisation and the UK Government recognise that air pollution is the largest environmental health risk we face today.
Dr Lisa Cameron MP said: “I was delighted to join many individuals across the constituency supporting Clean Air Day
"During summer, I encourage those who can, to leave the car at home and walk some of those short trips instead. In doing so, we will cut pollution, save on fuel costs, and be that bit more active."
But there are simple steps we can all take to help us avoid toxic air and cut down pollution.
In particular, this year’s #CleanAirDay highlighted the health and environmental benefits of walking.
And in Scotland 23 per cent of all trips are under one kilometre.
For those who are able, that’s about a 10 minute walk – the equivalent of three songs.
