East Kilbride's MP has called for greater support for those suffering from visual impairment as the cost of living continues to soar.
Dr Lisa Cameron is parliamentary champion of the Royal National Institute for the Blind and chairwoman of the Health All Party Parliamentary Group at Westminster.
Highlighting research by RNIB, the MP revealed that even before prices began to rise, one in five blind and partially-sighted people said they had some, or great, difficulty in making ends meet.
The East Kilbride, Strathaven and Lesmahagow MP told Lanarkshire Live : "I am keen to offer further support to those who have sight loss and to signpost the vital work of RNIB to constituents on the cost of living crisis, wellbeing supports available and in addressing equal opportunities in work and society."
The Royal National Institute for the Blind can help local constituents with sight loss to identify the financial help, tax allowances and concessions that they could be entitled to and give them the information and support they need to apply.
The charity also creates opportunities to connect with others facing similar issues, over the phone online and in person by providing talking books, newspapers and magazines, as well as a free RNIB Bookshare hub which is an online collection of educational books to read.
This comes at a time when significant sight loss affects around 188,000 people in Scotland and many across the East Kilbride community.
Recent figures show that 23 per cent of visually impaired people of working age in the UK are in paid employment, compared to 28 per cent in 2005.
Dr Cameron added: "I would urge anyone in this area to contact me directly or telephone the RNIB support line on 0303 123 9999 where users can speak to a RNIB sight loss adviser."
