East Kilbride, Strathaven and Lesmahagow MP Dr Lisa Cameron is backing calls for a halt to the closure of local Post Offices.
It comes as the Post Office confirmed this week that St Leonards branch would remain closed as no new operator could be found.
The branch closed last year when RS McColl's - where it was based - shut up shop.
And the Westwood Square branch also closed last year.
Ms Cameron said closures have unjustly affected those on low incomes, people with disabilities, the elderly and small businesses.
Post Offices provide essential services in the community and when they close communities can be left without vital services which negatively affects everyone.
The MP told Lanarkshire Live : "I continue to raise the matter of these closures within Parliament and also to work closely with Post Office Services and local councillors, particularly those affected in Westwood and St Leonards East Kilbride, to identify urgent ways forward for the recommissioning of these vital services.”
A recently published Citizens Advice Bureau report calls attention to how closures affect constituents and businesses across the UK.
It states 1291 post offices UK-wide were ‘temporarily closed’ in September 2021 and eight in 10 of those have been closed for over a year.
And it goes on to say one in three rural post offices are now provided as part-time outreaches.
These outreaches are open for an average of five hours a week, but in some areas, it can be as little as one hour a week.
Ms Cameron added: "In the community testimonies provided by the Citizens Advice report, many constituents emphasised how closures have reduced their autonomy and resulted in a loss of finance for small businesses.
"Effects are amplified in rural communities where transport to local post offices is often difficult."
