A man tried to choke a police officer as he was being arrested following a domestic disturbance.
Paul Martin, 38, was jailed for 14 months when he appeared from custody at Hamilton Sheriff Court.
He admitted threatening or abusive behaviour at his partner's home in Hamilton, on August 22.
Martin also admitted assaulting two police officers and failing to take a breath test after being suspected of drink driving.
The court heard the couple had been in a relationship for around 18 months.
Martin turned up at his partner's home at 1.40am. A witness saw his Range Rover drive on to a grass area and thought he was going to crash into the house.
Martin got out of the vehicle and banged on the house door and windows, demanding entry.
He appeared to be under the influence and was aggressive towards the woman.
The police were called and she told officers she wanted Martin to leave.
Alice Carey, prosecuting, said: "He was handcuffed but freed his left hand, grabbed one of the officers in a headlock and tried to choke him.
"During a struggle both fell to the floor. The officer's colleague tried to pull Martin off and he pushed his elbow into her body."
Defence agent Elspeth Forrest said the woman has stated she wishes to get back together with Martin, an electrician, when he is released from prison.
The solicitor added: "On the night in question he had taken drink and there was a difficulty with the front door which was not opening properly.
"That's why he was banging on the door and attracting attention."
The court heard Martin has previous convictions and in March this year was handed a non-harassment order in relation to a previous partner.
Jailing him, Sheriff Linda Nicolson said: "This behaviour was appalling. Neither the complainer nor the police should be subjected to this."
The 14-month stretch was backdated to August 23 as Martin has been in custody since then.
