Shocking late-night CCTV captured a car being torched in a quiet residential street in East Kilbride leaving its owner fearing for his safety.
Frightening footage from a neighbour's doorbell camera shows the moment Kyle Wilson's white Mazda6 Estate was set ablaze outside his girlfriend's house in Cadell Gardens, Calderwood.
At around 11.40pm on Tuesday, October 18 a male suspect can be seen crouching between parked cars holding what appears to be a petrol can seconds before Kyle's car bursts into flames.
The vandal is then spotted fleeing the scene on foot.
Kyle's girlfriend's father and friend who were out walking their dogs at the time are then seen running towards the fireball before they raise the alarm.
Twenty-seven-year-old Kyle, an aerospace engineering student, told us the "harrowing" unprovoked attack has left him fearing for his safety.
Kyle told Lanarkshire Live: "I don't have a clue who could have done this. It seems completely random as I have no debts or enemies.
"A couple of Ring doorbell cameras show somebody crawling behind other cars to get to mine and then it bursts into fire.
"It looks very intentional, they wanted that car, but nobody knows why. I've only had the car five weeks.
"Police and CID came and spoke to me and took our statements and were just as confused as us.
"They said normally with these targeted incidents we know who it is because they're either drug dealers or in a gang or known to be in with certain crowds.
"But I'm not the type of person who's got any links to anything like that. I don't owe any money or have any kind of problems so it's a very random attack."
East Kilbride police told us no suspects to the "unprovoked" incident have been identified at this time.
Kyle described the male suspect as of average height with a slim build.
He added: "I can't think why I would have been targeted. It puts that thought in your head when you're going round your daily business - what if it was meant for me.
"So there's a constant niggling fear in the back of my head thinking 'is someone out to get me?'. Do I need to think about my family and friends around me?
"If someone is willing to go out and do that kind of damage, what are they willing to do in person. It's quite a harrowing realisation.
"I'm hoping an appeal could perk the ears of someone who might have known or seen something on the night."
Sergeant Scott Anderson urged the community to be vigilant and report suspicious activity.
He said: "Fireraising is a highly impactive crime. This incident appears to be isolated and unprovoked, there have been no incidents of a similar nature reported to police in the area."
