Lanarkshire insurance firm raises vital funds for foodbank after completing Kiltwalk

A Lanarkshire insurance firm have raised vital funds for a local food bank having completed the Glasgow Kiltwalk.

Several members from the Laurie Ross office in Rutherglen took part in the challenge last weekend.

The insurance firm asked customers at the start of the year to help them choose a charity that would benefit, and Rutherglen and Cambuslang Foodbank came out on top.

The firm's business manager, Lorraine Cooper, told Lanarkshire Live : “In 2022, our Rutherglen branch customers overwhelmingly voted for the Rutherglen and Cambuslang Foodbank.

“This charity becomes the branch’s charity of the year. The partnership will last the year and we support the charity through fundraising, taking part in events, volunteering, and raising awareness in the branch or via social media channels.

“Each of our eight community branches supports a different local charity.

“So far this year the Rutherglen team have been collecting donations in branches, raising awareness, and helping out at the Morrisons Food Drive and the Big Sort.”

The company took part in the Glasgow Kiltwalk on Sunday, April 24, and managed to raise over £2000.

Lorraine added: “They said that the sore feet and blisters were all worth it as the team has so far raised a fantastic £1466.

"This amount will be topped up by 50 per cent, totalling £2166, due to the generosity of Sir Tom Hunter.

“If you would like to donate to the foodbank then just pop into the branch on Main Street.”

A spokeswoman for Rutherglen and Cambuslang Foodbank told us : “The people at the Rutherglen branch of Laurie Ross Insurance have been very active supporters of the foodbank for a long time.

“They help out whenever they can both in practical ways and with financial support. We are so grateful to the team for all that they do, and especially to all who have taken part in the Kiltwalk again this year.

“With their invaluable support, we can continue to support people in crisis in our community. Well done to the team!”
