A top Lanarkshire drumming group are beating a path towards Biggar.
Mugenkyo Taiko Drummers present [TAIKO LIVE] will take place at Biggar Corn Exchange on Friday November 11 as part of Scotland on Tour, the exciting initiative aimed at supporting the recovery of Scotland’s live music industry.
Mugenkyo are a South Lanarkshire-based performing arts company, internationally renowned for their energetic and theatrical modern style based on traditional Japanese taiko drumming.
The group have performed thousands of concerts at prestigious venues throughout the UK and have been featured on various film, TV and recording projects, including being featured on the BBC TV Tokyo Olympics programme for the opening big drum sequence.
Miyuki Williams said: "We are delighted to be able to bring [TAIKO LIVE] to Biggar this autumn thanks to Scotland on Tour. This is a tremendous opportunity for audiences to experience the power of Taiko drumming in local community venues.
"Mugenkyo tour throughout the UK and perform internationally, but we rarely have the opportunity to perform so near to our base in South Lanarkshire, so we are very much looking forward to the opportunity of connecting with new audiences in our area."
Scotland on Tour is taking place over a period of 12 months between April 2022 and 2023.
The project, which has been created and managed by Active Events, was made possible by £750,000 of Scottish Government backing and is increasing the number of opportunities to showcase and enjoy live music, while bringing exciting acts to the doorstep of cities, towns, villages and rural communities.
The year-long Scotland on Tour bill includes both emerging and established artists with genre-spanning acts appearing across the breadth and width of the country, with rock, pop, jazz, classical, folk, trad and acoustic genres all being showcased.
