A woman was knocked unconscious when she hit her head on the pavement after being attacked by her partner in East Kilbride.
Householders called the police after witnessing the early morning fracas.
Gavin Robertson appeared from custody at Hamilton Sheriff Court and admitted assaulting the woman in Blacklaw Drive on September 18.
At the time the 40-year-old was on two bail orders for alleged domestic offences.
The assault happened around 6.50am.
Jennifer Cunningham, prosecuting, said: "Residents heard a heated argument about infidelity in the relationship.
"The accused pushed his finger into his partner's face before putting his hands around her neck and strangling her.
"She then fell and struck her head on the pavement, and lay there motionless for about 10 seconds.
"Robertson made efforts to rouse her and it appeared she was unconscious. But she then got up and could be heard shouting at the accused to get away from her."
Police officers arrived and the couple were traced and the victim refused to discuss the incident with them.
She was taken to hospital and seemed to be all right, but wouldn't let a doctor carry out a full assessment.
Defence agent Jackson Bateman said his client has been in custody since the assault and his partner has been in contact with him.
Sheriff Ray Small deferred sentence until next month for a criminal justice social work report and Robertson was again remanded in custody.
