A Lanarkshire council have claimed there will be no further changes to catchment areas for schools in part of the region, after a row over recent alterations.
Elected members of South Lanarkshire Council's executive committee last month approved the decision to realign the catchment of Newton Farm and Hallside primary schools in Cambuslang, and to alter secondary schools that pupils in the rezoned area would attend from Uddingston Grammar School to Cathkin High School.
However the local authority has been criticised by Halfway Community Council, who have constantly campaigned for a new secondary school to be built in the area.
They say the amount of new build homes, and the number of families moving into the area as a result, mean that a secondary school is desperately needed - and that the council's changes are "disrupting" the local community.
Members of the community group are also annoyed that Newton Farm primary has continually been extended to accommodate extra pupils - a situation the group first raised when the school was being built.
A spokesperson for the community council told Lanarkshire Live: "We don’t have a lot of confidence in SLC's planning.
"They don’t seem to be able to take into account the local context of our new neighbourhoods like the size of houses and the fact that families will move into these four and five bedroom houses in our new estates in Cambuslang East.
"Surely they have got an eye on the council tax income that they will be receiving from each of these houses, so how hard is it to plan for school numbers? Everyone in Cambuslang East believes we need a new high school for the area.
"Why should neighbourhoods and communities continue to be broken up into different school catchment areas and in different towns every few years? This will not be the last catchment change in our opinion.
"The council need to realise the importance of proper planning, alignment to their key strategies and stop disrupting our local communities."
However the local authority have insisted that the recent rezoning moves will mark the end of changes.
Over 200 responses were received to a consultation by the council on the recent alterations, with 50 per cent of replies being against the proposal.
A total of 39 per cent were in favour and the council decided to go ahead with the plan.
Head of Education (School Estate), Lynn Sherry, stated: “Based on current pupil projections, there are no plans to carry out any further catchment changes within the Cambuslang area at this time.
"Pupil numbers can fluctuate from time to time, especially when new housing developments bring in families to a particular area.
"We invested heavily in creating a brand-new school estate to provide inspirational learning environments for all learners.
"Pupil roll projections are updated on an annual basis using the latest Housing Supply List and monitor trends in new starts coming into P1 to project primary numbers and secondary school rolls for coming years.
"This information is then used to plan and manage capacity pressures, for example, through adaptations or extensions, and if necessary catchment changes.
"In the Cambuslang area the council has been able to utilise the current spaces available at Hallside Primary School to support this approach.
"Any projected shortfall of secondary school places within the area could be managed via, for example, giving priority to South Lanarkshire catchment pupils over placing requests from children resident in other local authority areas.
"Other options to undertake adaptations or small extensions to existing schools would allow the pupil capacity to be met at a significantly lower cost than a new school building."
