A Lanarkshire artist is enjoying a brush with success after her paintings proved a hit.
Lynn Semple's work includes various landmarks around her Rutherglen home, including the town hall and Overtoun Park.
The 50-year-old is making most of her living through her artwork, and has been delighted at the positive response to her various cards and prints with a number of her designs now available to buy from the town hall.
Lynn told Lanarkshire Live: "I loved art at school but had a bit of a crisis of confidence about ever taking it beyond that. Then about five years ago I got back into sketching and drawing, and I was already doing quite a lot before the pandemic happened.
"With Covid, one of the very few upsides was having more time to draw and paint. I think it was a real therapy for me in a way and it continues to be that because when I really focus, and get into a state of flow, I go into my own world and everything else disappears, so I relax completely.
"Before that, a some people had seen my art on Instagram and I got asked to do a couple of commissions for them. Reactions to that made me think 'oh, I could try to sell some of these' and it went from there."
An entirely self-taught artist, Lynn believes she took her love of art from her father, who is also a regular painter, often taking inspiration from his home in the Black Isles in the Highlands.
That area has also inspired Lynn's work, but naturally she turned to Rutherglen, where she has lived for 20 years, as another inspiration.
The mum-of-two explained: "It's allowed me to connect with the local area. I feel my eyes are more open since I started painting again, as I observe things around me more closely, with an eye for art.
"I was on the Waverley yesterday, and I've been there many times before, but it was the first time I really took the details in as I was thinking about art.
"I've been going to the town hall for many years because, when I moved to Rutherglen, I visited there with the kids a lot, after Bookbug sessions and things like that.
"I love the building and it's a really important part of the town, so I was really keen to do something with it.
"I'm proud of the Christmas postcards I did as well - there was one of the Grow 73 event we did at the bandstand and the other was one of kids sledging there, and they proved really popular.
"A lady bought some of the prints and sent them to Canada. There is a great deal of affection there for the area from people who have moved away, and it's nice knowing I can help with that."
Now that Lynn is continuing her art, and she doesn't intend to be restricted in what she approaches.
She added: " I work in different mediums and the approach is quite scattergun, because there are so many ways to express yourself in art. I want to rail against finding a particular niche and just do a variety of things that interest me instead."
