Hundreds of runners will take to the streets in Lanarkshire this weekend in memory of a much loved doctor who passed away last year.
Cat Gaskell was a member of the Newton Road Runners when she sadly passed away in August 2021.
The club have now arranged a 10k starting at Westburn Hall and following the Clyde path, followed by a raffle at the Newton Arms pub, that will raise funds for a good cause and also celebrate Cat, who lived in Cambuslang.
There will also be a 3k for younger runners too, and Joanne Thorburn, the club president, is hoping for a fitting tribute to Cat, who was only 26 when she died and worked at the Hunter health centre in East Kilbride.
Joanne told Lanarkshire Live : "We are almost at capacity now for the 10k, and hopefully this week we'll reach the limit, which is 300 people. We are at around 270 people right now, with nearly 50 for the juniors 3k as well.
"So there are going to be good numbers on the day and we are looking forward to it.
"Last year when we did the run in Cat's memory it was very emotional and still very raw. This year will be a celebration of Cat, and her family will be there on the day."
Following the 10k, the day switches to the Newton Arms pub, where there will be a raffle with various prizes up for grabs.
Joanne has been delighted at the support the club have had.
She added: "We've been overwhelmed by sponsors and donations for the raffle. We've had Miller Homes, Taylor Wimpey and a mortgage company all get involved, which has been a huge help in the costs to organise a 10K.
"Among the prizes are membership at Energie Fitness Gym, Nike vouchers, a family pass to Hamilton Racecourse, sessions with fitness trainers and things like that.
"The monetary donations from the businesses have meant that we can do a little extra as well, so everyone gets a medal in the 3k and a bobble hat for the adults in the 10k, which should be useful in the winter!"
Money raised will cover any costs in organising for the Newton club and go towards mental health charities.
The race gets underway at noon.
