Lanark schoolgirl's family home transformed into diner for Lanimers celebrations

The family home of a Lanark schoolgirl was transformed into an American-style diner for the night as part of the Lanimers Week celebrations.

Eleven-year-old Izzy Young, who was chosen to be a Lanimers' Lady in Waiting, helped keep residents and visitors watching the annual traditional walk up Waterloo Road fuelled and refreshed.

For one evening only on Monday, to coincide with The Perambulation of the Marches, the pop-up diner offered up burgers, hotdogs, soda, and sundaes for soda - more commonly referred to in these parts as choc-ices and cans of ginger.

With the hard work of family and friends, the Lanark Primary pupil’s house was transformed and opened its doors to the public.

Izzy lives at home with her mum and dad and older brother Mark, who all pitched in to do their bit.

The food and drink items had all been donated and were handed out free of charge, but donations were gratefully accepted to help out two very good causes, the Clydesdale Food Bank and Kit for Kids.

Izzy’s dad Andrew Young revealed that £900 had been collected at the diner in a large bucket, with card payments also accepted – with help from the Lanark and District Round Table – and the money will be split between the two charities.

That total excludes what people have donated using the direct links Andrew posted on Facebook.

He added: “These are two great local charities that really make a difference in the community and can only survive with your generosity.

“We are really fortunate our house is close to the start of the marches so we thought this was an ideal opportunity to give a bit back to the community, raise a few pounds for two fantastic local charities and have a bit of fun!”

A delighted Andrew added: “None of this would have been possible without both the support of the local community and Lanark and District Round Table who were a massive help, cooking burgers, collecting money and making sure everything ran smoothly.”
