Lampard's plan, Ibrahimovic impression: 3 things spotted in Chelsea training ahead of Arsenal

One of Frank Lampard's best moments as Chelsea manager first time round came at the Emirates Stadium. One of his lowest points also came at the ground one year later in 2020.

As he heads back to north London with the Blues yet again there isn't load of hope that a positive outcome is within reach. His side haven't won in eight games - a run that has included games against Everton and Wolves - and are staring six straight losses down the barrel.

It's not the way he wanted to return and now, for the first time in nearly two decades, Chelsea are far from favourites as they journey up London on Tuesday night. When Lampard won there in 2019 it was an even contest, they went there comfortably in the top four 12 months later.

The gap is now over 30 points with six games left and the fortunes couldn't be further apart. Chelsea, in a major reverse of recent meetings, need to channel Arsenal's underdog energy from wins home and away against the Blues, in order to get something from the game.

Here, football.london takes a look at how Lampard's men have been preparing for the game with a peak at the club's training images.

Acrobatic Chalobah

Chelsea need a goalscorer from somewhere and, judging by the way Trevoh Chalobah launched himself airborne for a strike, he might the man to do it.

Jokes aside, the defender has come back into the team having been left out during the final weeks of Graham Potter's tenure, and has been shunted around the team so far under Lampard. It isn't conducive to consistency but the Englishman does have an eye for goal.

He might not be the man many would pick to score in the London derby but if a ball drops to him and needs a Zlatan Ibrahimovic-type finish, he could surprise a few.

Aubameyang's leading role

Returning to his old stomping ground, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is once more in the public eye. He hasn't scored for Chelsea since October but created two chances off the bench against Brentford. He appeared rusty for those but will be looking to take any opportunities that fall his way here.

In the training images he was front and centre of several, taking on Thiago Silva in one, rushing the Brazilian into a pass in another and looking to get off to a quick start ahead of his teammates in a third.

He is set to be a massive villain when he comes out to play but having had a taste of the action last week he will be relishing a runout against his former side.

Mudryk's nice control

Another player stealing the spotlight heading into the meeting is someone who could so easily have been coming into this match on the other side. Mykhailo Mudryk was widely expected to become a Gunner having teased fans throughout the season.

When he made a quick and surprise U-turn to move to SW6 it hurt Arsenal supporters but left Chelsea jumping for joy. It hasn't worked out yet but it's early days for the winger and several snaps of his close control when taking a touch with his chest and then onto his knee sum up his unpredictable nature.

With comparisons made between him and Son Heung-min under Mauricio Pochettino, the Blues will be hoping they can get a bit of the Spurs forward's attacking prowess in this match.
